The Center of Excellence of Split-Dalmatia County

The Center of Excellence is an institution that promotes the education of potentially gifted students in the Split-Dalmatia County, with the aim of creating a framework for working with talented and gifted students in the Republic of Croatia. We also try to share what we have learned in this process with all the people who want to help excellent and gifted students to realize their full potential in their homeland, the EU and the world.

At the moment, we have over 120 mentors and more than 430 students in our "A" programs in mathematics, informatics, new technologies and natural sciences, and the entrepreneurship program has started to be implemented this school year.

The training of educational staff to work with potentially gifted students is also our primary interest, and the center organizes various educations and conferences in the field of working with the gifted, which are not only focused on the concept of giftedness, but also on teaching work methods for the purpose of improving the entire system.

The German School of Athens (DSA)

The German School of Athens (DSA) was founded in 1896 and is one of the oldest “German Schools Abroad” in the world. It is a private school supported by the Federal Republic of Germany in terms of personnel and finances, committed to the teaching of the German and Greek languages and German and Greek educational values. It is one of the oldest German schools abroad in the world and has been in existence since 1896. The DSA is a “Begegnungschule” (a school that facilitates encounters) and thus sees itself as a meeting place in Athens for all: Greeks, Germans, Austrians and Swiss, bicultural families and all those who have a special interest in the German and Greek language and culture. It is as common characteristic of German schools abroad that they not only teach German language and culture, but that they open themselves to the language and culture of the partner country by teaching students of German and other mother tongues together.

Currently, 1,120 students from 15+ nations are learning under "one roof" from kindergarten (from age 3) to graduation, underlining the international and intercultural character of the school, in which almost one third of students have two citizenships. The school curricula are based on the standards of the German federal states. Starting in preschool, Modern Greek is taught in addition to German.  The DSA offers its graduates access to colleges, universities and apprenticeships through recognized German school degrees. At the DSA students usually strive for the common educational goal "German International Abitur" (DIA) in grade 12. However, the DSA offers its students all school qualifications recognized in Germany: in addition to the German International Abitur (DIA), the Mittlerer Bildungsabschluss (MSA) in grade 10 or the Hauptschulabschluss in grade 9.
